Basic Obedience Classes

Starting with the Beginning course for puppies and dogs new to training, basic classes move to Intermediate and Advanced. After successfully completing all three, your dog will:

Beginning: For dogs of all ages, this class teaches basic obedience skills such as sit, down, stay, and come when called. Advanced exercises are introduced. Puppies under six months of age improve their canine social skills by participating in puppy play time. Builds confidence for all dogs and lays a positive training foundation by using motivational, reward-driven methods.

Dog behavior and training techniques are discussed and questions answered. This course provides a solid basis for control to make your dog a great companion. Beginning may precede either Intermediate or Formal Obedience.

Intermediate: Continues and improves on all the skills learned in the Beginning course. Test of readiness for this level is familiarity with standard commands and demonstration of a one-minute down stay. Intermediate works towards the goal of off-leash control. Intermediate may precede either Advanced, Formal Obedience, or Beginning Agility.

Advanced: This course builds on the skills learned in Intermediate to prepare for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. This test, administered on the last day of class, enables a dog-owner team to earn an AKC title and certificate. This title distinguishes your dog as a well-mannered and desirable pet.
